Political Practices Commissioner declares ATP violated MT election laws

Montana’s commissioner of political practices is ruling the conservative dark money group American Tradition Partnership illegally coordinated election activities with a former state legislator.

Commissioner Jonathan Motl said Wednesday ATP distributed campaign mailers in coordination with former Billings Republican Representative Dan Kennedy. It’s the second blow to ATP this week, after a federal judge threw out a lawsuit from ATP associates.

Indian Identity - Part 1

Walk into any law library in this country and peruse the wall of US Code, that record of Congressional statutes, and among the 51 volumes there you will find titles such as The Congress, Agriculture, Railroads, Minerals and Mining, War and National Defense – all subjects common and particular enough to the US that no one would think twice about their presence.  But among these volumes you will also find one titled “Indians” – Title 25 to be exact.  A second perusal of the wall of Congressional law should be enough to show you that no other group of people in this country have been made dist

Mulgrew Miller tribute part two

Part two of a tribute to the late Mulgrew Miller continues as we move into the the present and feature his work over the last 15 years with the likes of Vincent Herring, Jim Rotondi, Lou Soloff, Jeremy Pelt and Ron Carter. We'll also hear music from his own albums, primarily leading a trio. The accomplished pianist, who had successful runs with both Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers in the 1980's and and the Tony Williams quintet from 1984 until Williams own death in 1997, also inspired modern players like Geoffrey Keezer and Robert Glasper.  We lost Miller last May at 57.

Getting older doesn't mean you're "doomed to be depressed"

Montana’s population is aging, and the number of people aged 65-and older living in Montana is expected to keep growing.

A report from the state Department of Health and Human Services says in 2000 Montana ranked 14th in the nation in the percentage of its population aged 65 or older.

That rank is expected to jump to 5th by the year 20-25.

Connecting this population with the necessary health services is part of an effort that brings together several organizations for seniors.

Trout Unlimited offers $10,000 to stem illegal fish introductions

The Montana Chapter of Trout Unlimited announced plans this week to offer a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those who illegally introduce fish species into the state’s waters, something wildlife officials say is on the rise.

"It is one of the most irresponsible things that somebody could do to Montana's fisheries," said Mark Aagenes, Montana TU Conservation Director.
